History

1989

The original concept of LATCH was thought up by Bryn Higgs and Tom Ruxton had an idea and called it LATCH in 1989.


1990

Leeds City Council leased LATCH 2 rundown properties for its Pilot Scheme. One was a shortlife project. The other was LATCH's first self-build Project.


1991

LATCH Ltd and LATCH Co-op were officially registered.


1994

LATCH won the Community Enterprise Award for Housing and Homelessness. Presented by Prince Charles.


1995

LATCH now managed a total of 28 bed spaces. The AHP Accelerated Housing Project began, forming partnerships with Leeds City Council, Leeds Federated and Ridings Housing Associations.


1997

The National Lottery Charity Board and and the Social Regeneration Budget provided funding for the Number One Project: a complete refurbishment of 6 flats at 1 Leopold Street.


1998

The AHP was completed - LATCH now had 26 units and 50 bed spaces.


1999

The SOLO project began. LATCH moved house to 176 Chapeltown Road and renamed and re-vitalised the AHP(Assisted Housing Project) to it's current status as the Supported Housing Project (SHP).


2001

No. 1 Project completed after 3 years, creating 6 designer flats for 6 self-builders and their families.

LATCH was awarded the 2001 Big Difference Award by the Big Issue in the North.
